Camaiore, Lucca – In the past the caulkers with their wisdom, ropes and pitch made the vulnerable boats impermeable to the sea and safe from storms. Just like the Cooperativa Agricola Sociale Calafata (“Calafata” in Italian means “caulker”) involvimg disadvantaged people in marginal conditions, through paths of work inclusion and relational growth, it puts back into production and enhances lands otherwise destined to neglect and abandonment that become the place for recovery and valorisation. Furthermore, the cooperative is active in the fight against illegal agricultural hiring. Through training and dissemination courses it wants to counteract the possibility of falling into exploitation circuits and wants to offer the possibility of accessing the world of work. The beneficiaries are women and men legally residing on the Italian territory who present conditions of poverty, deprivation, organizational inability on the territory and / or housing emergency.
